Stress Relief Lotion Recipe (+ printable labels)

This lotion features a quartet of essential oils selected to help calm nerves and uplift the mood. I also incorporated a bit of magnesium oil into the recipe, since it’s such an important mineral to support our nervous system; we all could use more magnesium in our life! If you don’t want to include the magnesium oil, if it’s out of your budget, or you find it too drying for your skin type, feel free to use more distilled water … Continue reading

Natural Preservatives for Homemade Lotion (An Experiment)

Natural preservatives that will help your homemade lotions and creams stay fresh longer

Have you ever felt confused and conflicted when you looked up information on preserving homemade lotions and creams? Me too. I want my products to be as wholesome and natural as possible, but also don’t want to create something that’s going to grow weird stuff in it, or worse – make a loved one sick. To get to the bottom of it all, I started an experiment last summer, in an attempt to try to figure out … Continue reading

Chamomile & Elder Sensitive Skin Lotion Recipe

Gentle Chamomile & Elder Lotion Recipe for Sensitive Skin

This gentle unscented lotion is perfect for those with sensitive skin. I chose avocado oil and avocado butter for this recipe because of how useful they can be for smoothing rough skin. Avocado oil contains essential fatty acids and vitamins A and E, has been studied in a cream for psoriasis (source) and is also a great choice for those with tree nut allergies. If you don’t have the oil and/or butter on hand, or prefer something different, you can … Continue reading

Lavender Plantain Lotion

This easy-to-make Lavender Plantain Lotion is a wonderful all-purpose moisturizer, that’s suitable for most skin types. Plantain is a beneficial green weed that commonly grows in yards and driveways. You can use the leaves to make a fantastic infused oil, that can be incorporated into salves, lotions, creams and soaps. It’s excellent at soothing any type of itchy or inflamed skin condition. Lavender essential oil adds a light fragrance and some of its own skin-soothing properties. Another option is to add lavender buds to the oil, while infusing plantain, for a faint lavender scent. You could also skip the lavender, and just make an unscented lotion, instead.
